Two Food Truck Events You Should Know About: Antojitos de mi Abuelita at Street Food Mondays, Cast Iron Gourmet & Frysmith at Black Boar Bar
[caption id=“” align=“aligncenter” width=“500” caption=“Antojitos de mi Abuelita”][/caption] Everyone knows Los Angeles is a wonderful place to eat, with unmatched culinary diversity - and mobility - found anywhere else in the world. Fortunately, there are two food events happening today and tomorrow with focuses on food trucks - O.G. and nouveau - that bring you their goods in a special setting for one night only. If I weren’t out of town, I’d personally attend these two events. Instead, you’ll have to go in my place, represent and see what they’re all about. One is brought to you by the celebrated return of Street Food Mondays, curated by Bill Esparza (Street Gourmet LA) and Evan Kleiman (owner of Angeli Caffe). Antojitos de mi Abuelita, a food truck representing Mexico City-style antojitos, or masa-based “little whims,†will be serving up “Comida corrida,” or a 3-course meal for only $28. The other is a collaboration between Cast Iron Gourmet and Frysmith food truck - more on that after the jump. The Antojitos de mi Abuelita truck is normally stationed in North Hollywood. Check out the menu below for a great 3 courses, dessert and aguas frescas offered for only $28 and served up at Angeli Caffe on Melrose. Catch Bill and Evan there tonight (Monday, February 28).
Course 1: Mexico city-style lentil soup Course 2: White rice with vegetables Course 3: Choice of one stew Green mole, Pueblan style Pork ribs in guajillo chile Pork ribs with purslane in spicy-tomatillo Frog’s legs torts Aztec spinach â€huazontle†in black Oaxacan mole Complimentary dessert: Homemade “arroz con leche†Complimentary Mexican “aguas frescasâ€: Rice “horchata†or hibiscus flower “jamaica”
Tomorrow (Tuesday, March 1), Cast Iron Gourmet - the makers of beloved Couch Mix and Bacon Chutney sold at Artisanal LA - will be collaborating with the Frysmith food truck (twitter) while celebrating National Pig Day at Black Boar Bar in Eagle Rock. (You can thank them for notifying us of such an important, under-celebrated holiday.) Happy Hour drinks (that is, $3 well drinks and select beers) will be available from 5 - 8 PM but from 5 - 9 PM, the duo will be around serving “porky eats and french fried treats.” I can’t think of a better combination.
