Palm Springs, CA: Cheeky's Brunch Starts Your Desert Morning Right
[caption id=“” align=“aligncenter” width=“500”] Berkshire Pork Stew[/caption] Upon stepping into Cheeky’s on a Friday morning, I knew it was a place I’d enjoy eating at. Filled with natural light, it’s open Thursdays through Mondays during the breakfast-to-brunch time block. It makes sense, since the menu changes weekly - and it’s a delicious one dedicated to seasonal, local ingredients, at that. [caption id=“” align=“alignright” width=“180”] Bloody Mary[/caption] Hopefully, one thing they won’t ever change is their Bacon Bar ($1 per slice or $4 for the “flight”), especially since I missed a tip from a friend to try it until after I had already left! Not only have I never tried Mexican chili lime-cured bacon, I haven’t had Jalapeno bacon, either. That’s one for the “To-Do.” One sure-fire drink you can be happy about accompanying your brunch is their Bloody Mary in a Boot. Order it extra spicy, if you like, because like everything else on the menu, it’s made from scratch. The PIMM’s Cup I had was also made with fresh ingredients, with muddled blueberries in my morning cocktail. And all eggs served are organic. You’ll see tinges of Mexican influence on the menu in the form of items like Breakfast Sopes, Rice Pudding with seasonal fruit and Chilaquiles with Chorizo. But arrive after 11:30 AM and you’ll find things like Shrimp Louie, Kale Salad, Israeli Couscous, Fried Chicken Sandwich and a Grass-fed Burger on Brioche & Pesto Fries. And while Intelligentsia Coffee is served, the pastries have to be spoken for, as well. Pastry Chef Deb Menduno’s hot seller is the Croissant Cinnamon Roll, a large moist round of cinnamon and goodness. Her pastry case also rotates regularly. Probably the only drawback is one that hadn’t affected me, as when I’ve talked about Cheeky’s with other Angelenos, they’ve asked if I had a long wait. I hadn’t on that Friday morning visit, but others had indeed waited in a long line to await seating, but only because the food and service is worth it. So that’s a tip to visit during downtime. If you find yourself in Palm Springs on a Thursday through Monday, your best first meal-of-the-day bet is Cheeky’s. Whether you’re an herbivore or omnivore, you’ll find something fresh, local and delicious to your liking. _All food and drink were hosted. _
